It's just not the holidays without a reference to rape...

Good to see retailers testing rape jokes in their holiday e-blasts this season! Urban Outfitters leads the pack on this important response metric.

And to think there are still brands in these modern times putting together entire e-marketing strategies without a single reference to rape! Stone age, man.

Clever ways to represent cash well spent
This November 14th media release from Cancer Research UK uses an infograph & video to illustrate the fact that cancer rates have dropped since the 1970s. Over 5,000 children have been saved thanks to advances in cancer treatment.

For leukaemia alone, survival rates have risen to more than 80%.

“In the 70s, basically all children with cancer died. And now, about 80% of the children who come to us with a diagnosis of malignancy, we can actually offer them the chance for a cure.”

Representing complex information with visual techniques like infographs or videos can help donors understand the importance of supporting non-sexy, open-ended projects like research.

Doublethinky slut-shaming

“To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic … Even to understand the word ‘doublethink’ involved the use of doublethink.”

Doublethink, coined by George Orwell in the novel 1984 - a simultaneous belief in two contradictory ideas.

Kenyan army tweets: "Don't sell donkeys to militants!"

Kenya’s military spokesman is using Twitter to warn people not to help Al Qaeda-linked militants by selling them an old-world transportation tool: donkeys.

Spokesman Maj. Emmanuel Chirchir is tweeting updates on Kenya’s military push into Somalia to fight the al-Shabab militants.

“Kenyans dealing in donkey trade along the Kenya-Somali border are advised not to sell their animals to Al Shabaab,” Chirchir tweeted, adding: “Selling Donkeys to Al Shabaab will undermine our efforts in Somalia.”
